| An
Artist, a Writer and a Dream
tomolennon,
teams with Toronto-based writer, KAY, to bring their
dream of peace to Nathan Phillips Square on
August 6th, 2005. This presentation of live
art will commence at 8:00 pm, in an
afternoon of peace activities for the 60th commemoration
of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagaski, organized
by Toronto’s Hiroshima Day Coalition.
He
will create a live painting called “I Have a Dream”.
A collection of photographs selected by children to
express joy, dreams and happiness will be projected
in quick succession onto a canvas. Wielding his paintbrushes
like a samurai’s sword, tomolennon will capture
the essence of each photograph in a few seconds. The
final image will express the sum of children’s
dreams and happiness.

The
Gladstone Hotel is the oldest continuously operating
hotel in Toronto. Susanna Robinson commissioned architect
George Miller, who also designed Massey Hall, to build
the Gladstone in 1889. The hotel is gradually being
restored to reflect the building’s architectural
history and looks forward to opening its newly renovated
rooms to guests in May/June 2005.
Accommodations
Guests
can choose to stay in one of 15 artist designed rooms.
Each of these rooms has been individually designed by
local Toronto artists, some famous, some not. Artists
were selected from a formal submissions process and
room designs were chosen based on their originality
and intent, with the comfort of guests in mind. The
artist designed rooms are not themed rooms; however
they are as eclectic and as the Gladstone clientele
ranging in aesthetic from high art and design to craft.
Each room is truly individual.
